Coming out of India, where the need to deal with Delhis growing pollution problem forced the development of a creative solution, the conversion of plastic waste into these fabulous fashion items is as innovative in its application as it is in providing the urban poor with employment.
Once the bags have been collected, washed, dried and colour separated they are cut and layered into various designs until the required thickness has been achieved. At this point they are manually heat and pressure fused into a pliable and uniquely patterned fabric.
Using a blend of creativity and innovation from both European and Indian designers, what was once a dull environmental hazard has become this stylish fashion statement, while alleviating the impact of plastic pollution on our planet.
