Beneath our Bay
‘Beneath our Bay’ is a photographic journey through the marine habitats of Port Phillip’s 260km coastline. The book aims to raise awareness of Port Phillip’s natural beauty to sustain its resources for the future. The colourful photography throughout the book is accompanied by an interpretive narrative useful for schools, beach-goers, divers, snorkelers, local communities and marine enthusiasts. A total of 140 marine animals have been photographed living within 33 of Port Phillip’s most well known locations, including Melbourne’s popular beaches and marine protected areas. This book uncovers the many secrets that are to be found right on Melbourne’s doorstep, beneath our bay.
A key feature of the production of this book is that all photographs were taken whilst snorkelling with affordable compact cameras. This unique approach aims to encourage others who may be deterred from the impracticality and cost of scuba diving, to get more involved in activities involving local marine life.
