Hobsons Bay Altona Library Government Solar Installation

As part of a commitment to reach zero net emissions, Hobsons Bay have engaged EnviroGroup to design, install and commission a 50 kW solar PV on the roof of the Altona Library.

Located in Hobsons Bay, the library is a hub for the local community. It features a meeting centre and a ‘EnviroCentre’. The centre is a hub which brings together and showcases the councils environmental initiatives to maximise community awareness of environmental issues.

The councils commitment to the environment goes far beyond the library. In 2007, the council unveiled a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its own operations to become carbon neutral (zero net emissions) by 2020 to show community leadership.

The solar PV system installed on the library is part of a 4 year plan to reduce emissions and will feature further systems installed on 4 libraries in total. The array will pay itself off in only 8 years and is set to reduce electricity costs by approximately 30%.

The installation itself was straightforward and allowed the library to remain open during installation.
